Jackson State knocks off Prairie View 34-13

Jackson State bounces back against Prairie View with a 34-14 win.
After losing their first home game, the Tigers gave the fans a game worth sitting in the rain. With two big interceptions by Jackson State’s Qua Cox, the Tigers’ momentum was intense as Tommy Gooden rushed for 135 yards, 18 carries and scored JSU’s last touchdown of the game. 
On the first drive for JSU in the third quarter, Rakeem Sims rushed for 1 yard into the end zone after 10 plays, 77 yards.  At the five minute mark in the third quarter, Sims rushed five yards to gain a 13-10 lead against PVAM. Prairie View came back to tie the game with a 32 yard field goal made by Christopher Barrick. The Tigers closed out the third quarter with a fumble recovery in the end zone by Willie Bell #52 that gave the Tigers a 20-13 lead.
The Tigers continued to roar as Dedrick McDonald’s quarterback keeper on a 10 yard run pushed the lead to 27-13 followed by a 15 yard touchdown rush by Gooden.
With Prairie View trying to make a comeback, Richard Hughes for JSU intercepted a PVAM pass at the Jackson State 48 and rushed for a 21 yard return to the PVAM 31. Prairie View was unable to recover against Jackson State. 
Jackson State will travel to Arkansas Pine Bluff to take on the Golden Lions October 6, 2012 at 1:00 pm.

JSU Volleyball 

continues to streak

JSU beat SE Louisiana 3-1 (24-26, 25-17, 25-23, and 25-16). With the win JSU improves to a 7-11 overall record and extends its winning streak to five matches. With the loss Southeastern falls to a 5-10 record.
JSU received a balanced attack en route to the victory. Christine Edwards, the current Southwestern Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, led the Lady Tigers with 11 kills and five assists. Paige Williams, the current SWAC Defensive Player of the Week, recorded nine kills and had a game high five blocks. Mikayla Rolle finished with eight kills and Jasmine Knight had seven. On the defensive side, Angelica Kelley recorded with 19 digs.
Courtney Donald led SE Louisiana with 18 kills and Lindsey Young recorded 13 digs.
Jackson State will return to action October 5, when the Lady Tigers travel to Baton Rouge, LA to participate in the Southern Tournament.

The Jackson State Lady Tigers soccer team picked up their first win Friday against the Golden Lions of UAPB with a 1-0 victory.

In an intense head-to-head matchup against Arkansas Pine Bluff, JSU came out on top in a 14 foul game. At the 20:40 mark in the game, Victoria Casher made the only goal of the game as Jackson State ended with a game high of 34 shots on goal.

​

The Lady Tigers will return to home field action Oct. 9, 2012 against Grambling at the JSU Soccer Complex. Kick off is scheduled for 3:00 pm. Admission to game is free.
