JSU's Yero wins TNBA tournament

​

Jackson State junior bowler, Rashia Yerorecently won the National Bowling Association (TNBA) junior scratch tournament, which was held in Toledo, OH. She bowled three, four game blocks to qualify. In the first block she finished with a 732 for seventh position. In the second block she bowled a 713 for fifth position. After the first day, she had a 1445 total for seventh position.

The following day, the third block she rolled and 748 for a total of 2193, which put her in fifth place. Then she participated in the stepladder double elimination and Yero bowled her way to a win in the master girls division.

Last season, she led this tournament only to fall short of winning.

"I promised myself to go back for my last junior tournament and win," said Yero.

Lady Tigers soccer team hits the road again

The soccer team hits the road again to face off against MVSU Oct. 5 with kickoff at 6:00 pm and Alcorn State Oct. 7 with a 2:00 pm kickoff.

The Lady Tigers will return to home field action Oct. 9, against Grambling. This game was postponed on Sept. 30 due to inclement weather.  

JSU Soccer wins big against Arkansas Pine-Bluff

​The Jackson State Lady Tigers soccer team picked up their first win Friday against the Golden Lions of UAPB with a 1-0 victory.

​

In an intense head to head matchup against UAPB, JSU came out on top in a game of 14 fouls. At the 20:40 mark in the game, Victoria Casher made the only goal of the game as Jackson State ended with a game high of 34 shots on goal.

Women's Sports

Sanders receives All-Academic nod from USTFA

Jackson State women's track and field standout Raina Sanders received All-Academic honors from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Sanders - who is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma honor society, members must maintain at least a 3.4 grade point average , as well as lettering in a sport sponsored by the university -is a multiple Southwestern Athletic Conference champion in the 200 and 400 meter dash.

JSU volleyball continues winning streak

JSU beat SE Louisiana 3-1 (24-26, 25-17, 25-23, and 25-16). With the win JSU improves to a 7-11 overall record and extends its winning streak to five matches. With the loss Southeastern falls to a 5-10 record.


JSU received a balanced attack en route to the victory. Christine Edwards, the current Southwestern Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, led the Lady Tigers with 11 kills and five assists. Paige Williams, the current SWAC Defensive Player of the Week, recorded nine kills and had a game high five blocks. Mikayla Rolle finished with eight kills and Jasmine Knight had seven.

On the defensive side, Angelica Kelley recorded with 19 digs.
Courtney Donald led SE Louisiana with 18 kills and Lindsey Young recorded 13 digs.


Jackson State will return to action October 5, when the Lady Tigers travel to Baton Rouge, LA to participate in the Southern Tournament.
